At the recent Autumn Statement, the government chose to provide an additional £2.3 billion to schools in England to help compensate them for higher costs (Institute for Fiscal Studies, 2024). However, the significant falls in the pupil population that are expected to continue through to 2030 have placed mounting pressures on funding for many schools and Multi Academy Trusts. The recent “MAT Leaders Challenges Survey Report 2024” (Strictly Education 2024) reported that 12% of Trusts indicated reduced pupil numbers had already had a “very serious impact on funding, leading to staff redundancies”.
Despite this, most schools are yet to recognise the need for a structured onboarding process for prospective new parents. School websites are rarely designed to encourage parents to visit a school or even engage further. Of all the mystery shops undertaken by Blue Apple Education, 52% of schools do not even respond to an enquiry about a school place!
