Across two Executive Field Study sessions, Derventio Education, in collaboration with Jennifer Surujpaul, explored how AI can act as a powerful thinking companion for school leaders. Part one introduced AI not as a technical tool, but as a strategic partner. It focused on how leaders can use AI to analyse ideas, challenge assumptions and refine thinking through structured prompts and real-world scenarios.

Part two built on this foundation by encouraging more deliberate and detailed prompting. Educators were supported to move beyond initial experimentation and begin using AI to deepen strategic thinking, strengthen decision-making and explore complex challenges with greater clarity.

Together, these sessions reinforce a clear message. The impact of AI in education is not driven by the technology alone, but by the quality of our thinking and the questions we ask. Through this collaboration, leaders are better equipped to use AI in thoughtful, purposeful and responsible ways.
