Teacher workload is of paramount importance when leading in a setting, especially when it comes to tweaking Teaching and Learning approaches, let alone when it comes to introducing new ideas from scratch. One of the greatest challenges that leaders face when developing metacognition within T&L is naturally therefore, workload. The key way to lead this change is to hang metacognition on other T&L approaches. This mean to explore how metacognition can be developed through teacher-led modelling, how questioning can be adapted to get students to think more deeply, how discussions tasks get students to go beyond just the answer, and so much more. Metacognition should underpin all aspects of T&L, and, should you find workload massively increasing, it is likely a sign that implementation is going wrong somewhere.
